Job Description

Located in the beautiful West Kootenay region of British Columbia, the City of Rossland is a progressive municipality of approximately 4,000 people known for its proximity to world-class outdoor recreation, heritage architecture and arts & culture atmosphere. Located only two and a half hours from the City of Spokane, Washington and three kilometers from the base of Red Mountain Resort (within City limits), Rossland is rapidly growing into a first-class, all-seasons BC Resort Municipality.

We are currently seeking an individual with outstanding work ethic, strong leadership skills and a safetyfirst attitude to join our team as a full-time Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator. Reporting to the Public Foreperson, the Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator operates and maintains water supply and treatment facilities, the City’s water distribution system and wastewater collections system. This includes water quality and sampling and lab analysis; process monitoring; evaluation and control; residuals management; and equipment isolations and shutdowns. Also, reservoir maintenance and inspection. The role assists with the operation of SCADA to monitor system-operating data; creates and maintains operating records and identifies trends; responds to emergency alarms and calls from the public related to water services.

Requirements:

• Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work plus some related experience working with water treatment systems, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

• EOCP Water Treatment Level II Certification.

• Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair and installation of water distribution related equipment such as but not limited too fittings, pumps, motors and services.

• Thorough knowledge of utility locating, chlorine dosing system principles, and provincial drinking water regulations and legislation.

• Considerable knowledge of the safety precautions and hazards applicable to the work. • Thorough knowledge of the water treatment and distribution system principles.

• Thorough knowledge of SCADA networks and ability to use SCADA to monitor system-operating data. • Thorough knowledge and the ability to operate computer software (i.e. GIS and Microsoft Office).

• Class 3 drivers license with air brakes.

• Participation in the standby rotation and the ability to work emergency overtime hours are requirements of this position. Qualifications to set you apart from other applicants will be confined space training, equipment operation, snow plowing experience, road maintenance, and knowledge in municipal infrastructure. Assets for this job would be use of construction tools, mechanical background, water meter maintenance and general municipal infrastructure repairs and maintenance.

This is a Regular, Full-time CUPE Local 2087 bargaining position and offers a rate of pay of $43.20 per hour (Paygrade 9) with benefits outlined in the Agreement. The City offers an extensive benefits package as per the Collective Agreement.
