Job Description

Reporting to the Robson-Raspberry Improvement District (RRID) Board of Trustees this position supports the RRID’s Lead Operator for water treatment plant maintenance and operation. The Assistant Water Treatment Operator position is open to entry level as well as certified Level I and II treatment operators.

 

The RRID is an equal opportunity employer and is willing to cover the expense of additional coursework to support the successful candidate’s continuing education in the field of Water Treatment. The RRID will therefore consider individuals who are eligible for registration as Operator In Training (OIT) with the BC Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP). The RRID is able to provide the necessary supervision for credible experience under an existing Water Treatment Operator (II) for career advancement.

Duties:

  • Works to support the Lead Water Treatment Operator;
  • Operates, monitors and maintains equipment used at the RRID Water Treatment Plant;
  • Makes chemical adjustments as required;
  • Completes material purchases in accordance with established procedures;
  • Performs basic water sampling and analysis and records results in accordance with established procedures;
  • Generates preventative and corrective maintenance work orders in accordance with established procedures;
  • Provides support in repair or maintenance work;
  • Available for standby when required, responds to call outs and takes corrective action as required;
  • Operates the system computer terminal and takes corrective action;
  • Completes work in compliance with the RRID safety policies and WCB regulations;
  • Performs other related work which may include distribution support; and
  • Assist the Board and its staff in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.

Education and Experience:

  • BC Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) Level I or II Municipal Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification an asset;
  • One or more years working in water treatment operations, maintenance, related support systems an asset;
  • BC EOCP Chlorine Handlers Certificate or Chlorination Course through WET (Water Engineering Technology program) an asset;
  • Grade 12 high school diploma or trade certification;
  • Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5;
  • WHIMIS;
  • Level I First Aid; and
  • A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of basic knowledge on materials, tools, and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, and related facilities;
  • A mechanical aptitude and ability;
  • Ability to read drawings and equipment manuals;
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position;
  • Ability to use a respirator and required to pass a fit test consistent with manufacturers specifications; and
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to undertake additional training relating to the duties of a Water Treatment Operator.

Hours and Compensation:

Up to five regular work days per week depending on mutual agreement of responsibilities. Standby and emergency call-out pay available. Compensation will be competitive relative to local norms and is negotiable based on experience.
