Job Description

Reporting to the Robson-Raspberry Improvement District (RRID) Board of Trustees this position supports the RRID’s Lead Operator for water distribution system maintenance and operation. The Distribution System (DS) Operator position is open to entry level as well as certified Level I and II DS operators.

 

The RRID is an equal opportunity employer and is willing to cover the expense of additional coursework to support the successful candidate’s continuing education in the field of Water Distribution. The RRID will therefore consider individuals who are eligible for registration as Operator In Training (OIT) with the BC Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP). The RRID is able to provide the necessary supervision for credible experience under an existing Water Distribution System Operator (III) for career advancement.

Duties:

  • Supports the Lead Water Treatment Operator;
  • Repairs and maintains the RRID water distribution system and associated equipment including valve and flushing systems;
  • Works with RRID staff to coordinate distribution system construction work including expansion and repairs;
  • Works with contractors during planning, construction and recommissioning phases of distribution work and provides quality control;
  • Installs water distribution equipment;
  • Performs water sampling and reporting;
  • Locates buried water lines and infrastructure;
  • On standby as required. Responds to call outs and takes corrective actions;
  • Completes work in compliance with the RRID safety policies and WCB regulations;
  • Completes material purchases in accordance with established procedures;
  • Generates preventative and corrective maintenance work orders in accordance with established procedures;
  • Upon mutual agreement, performs other related work which may include treatment plant support; and
  • Assist the Board and its staff in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.

Education and Experience:

  • BC Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) Level I or II Municipal Distribution System Operator Certification an asset;
  • One or more years working in water distribution operation & maintenance an asset;
  • Grade 12 high school diploma or trade certification;
  • Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5;
  • WHIMIS;
  • Level I First Aid; and
  • A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of basic knowledge on materials, tools, and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of the distribution system and related facilities;
  • A mechanical aptitude and ability;
  • Ability to read drawings and equipment manuals;
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position;
  • Ability to use a respirator and required to pass a fit test consistent with manufacturers specifications; and
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to undertake additional training relating to the duties of a Distribution System Operator.

Hours and Compensation:

Two to four regular work days per week depending on mutual agreement of responsibilities. Standby and emergency call-out pay available. Compensation will be competitive relative to local norms and is negotiable based on experience.
