Teck is looking for an experienced Superintendent, Process Optimization to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world’s largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Metallurgy Development Manager, the Superintendent, Process Optimization is responsible for assessing, prioritizing and executing solutions for metallurgical design constraints and cost improvement opportunities as well as establishing and monitoring compliance with the optimal feed blend to maximize margins.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Oversee metallurgical process optimization and provide design solutions and cost improvements for Trail Operations
    • Define and deliver technical solutions (flowsheet modifications, new unit operations, etc.) to address metallurgical constraints and/or value optimization opportunities into Trail Flowsheet
  • Provide preliminary financial analysis of optimization opportunities and recommendations Ensure any modifications to the Trail Flowsheet and/or Unit Processes are implemented without disruptions by assessing metallurgical readiness and defining the handover package
  • Oversee and provide guidance on the optimal feed blend to maximize margins at Trail Operations
    • Develop and continuously improve the model to optimize the blend composition that is aligned to the process design.
    • Embed the optimal blend modelling into the annual feed plan business process
    • Develop and continuously review the guidance to achieve and maintain the planned optimal blend.  Monitor conformance to the blend guidance
    • Ensure the blending infrastructure has a capacity to deliver the optimal blend in the most cost-effective way and recommend improvements
  • Monitor the delivery of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) for metallurgical optimization projects to ensure the metallurgical process design is maintained
  • Incorporate critical control management into process optimization projects and blend management activities to prevent and minimize probability of material unwanted events
  • Lead and mentor a team of Engineers, EITs and Co-ops by managing day-to-day activities, providing strategic direction, driving performance and excellence, and organizing work to achieve a positive working environment
    • Provide short and long-term performance and career development for employees

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a specialization in Metallurgy, Process, Materials Science or a related discipline
  • Applicants need to be eligible for registration or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (“EGBC”) as this will be a condition of employment. Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a metallurgical or related industry
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience required
  • Knowledge of metals refining business processes, concepts, and terminology
  • Significant, hands-on experience within a metal processing environment and engineering of pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical areas required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the demonstrated ability to influence others, build relationships and work with cross-functional teams
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, prioritization and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide leadership to a diverse team including union members

Salary Range: $130,000 – $160,000

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Please note this role requires the successful candidate to live within 100KM of Trail, British Columbia. Relocation assistance will be offered however there is no camp or company housing.
