Student Recruitment Coordinator
Job Description
Reporting to the Manager of Marketing and Digital Strategy and utilizing a service excellence approach, this position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of prospective student recruitment initiatives. The Student Recruitment Coordinator is responsible for the distribution of information and effective promotion of Selkirk College to prospective high school students across British Columbia. This position serves as a liaison between the College and prospective students and target audiences/influencers; identifying and facilitating innovative College and program specific recruitment initiatives; opportunities, organizing and executing events and preparing and delivering presentations. This role is also responsible for facilitating the distribution of promotional materials; researching and planning as well as executing the content, production, and distribution of web, social media and print communications. The Student Recruitment Coordinator is responsible for the research of recruitment trends to make decisions on how best to recruit students to Selkirk College.
The hours of work for this position may be varied, including a requirement to work evenings and weekends. This position requires travel within Canada, and time away from home that may average more than five days per trip (primarily September through December). This position is located at both the Nelson and Castlegar campuses as required.
Promotes Selkirk College brand positioning through communication of key messages designed to increase enrolment and raise awareness of programs and student services including:
- Works within the Marketing & Communications department, liaising with the schools via the deans and chairs to identify recruitment opportunities, target student populations, and to develop, execute and evaluate recruitment plans and campaigns.
- Leads the development and implementation of visitation schedules for high schools, agencies, career fairs and/or conferences to meet prospective students, counsellors and administrators to discuss program offerings and answer/gather questions concerning curriculum, admission requirements, enrollment procedures, timelines, student services and student life. This requires this position to possess a thorough understanding of all of these components of the College.
- Leads the creation and delivery of presentations to prospective students and/or parents on an individual or group bases to answer questions, compare educational institutions, discuss their educational goals and to provide admissions, introductory financial aid, secondary school transitions, student services and student life information.
- Documents “intelligence” gathered from the “field” as an important input to the development of recruitment, marketing, and College-response strategies.
- Strategizes, plans, and organizes on-campus recruitment events for prospective students, including agendas, speakers, workshops, tours, and transportation.
- Strategizes, plans, sources, and utilizes merchandise to supports the recruitment process.
- Raises the profile and builds the positive image of the college through leading institutional participation in community events such as fairs, parades, and other regional events.
- Leads the collaborative planning, development and implementation of new and automated processes and procedures to track and communicate with student prospects.
- Leads the development of recruitment collateral such as email campaigns, flyers, brochures, web and social media content; and keeps the CRM up to date with prospective and current student outreach.
- Works to continually enhance and improve the communications sent out through the CRM to best promote Selkirk College to the prospective student based on the students position within the enrolment funnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Excellent written, verbal and customer service skills.
- Skilled in examining, developing, and executing new strategies to better suit changing trends.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of BC high school and post-secondary system, institutions, and programs.
- Knowledge of both traditional and digital marketing recruitment pathways.
- Knowledge of admissions policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of diverse populations and cultures.
- Demonstrated ability in report writing, customer relations systems, and social media platforms.
- Proficiency in Windows XP and Office Suite.
- Basic understanding of the development and management of budgets.
- Ability to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities and meet deadlines.
Education and Experience
- 4-year related university degree or equivalent related education.
- 3-4 years related experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the fields of student recruitment and/or sales and marketing.
- Demonstrated public speaking experience.
- Demonstrated experience developing recruitment or marketing plans.
- Valid BC Drivers Licence.

This is an on-call position commencing April 22, 2024. The salary is Pay Grade 11, $36.37 per hour in accordance with the PPWC Collective Agreement.
