Job Description

The Trail Community Action Team (CAT) is seeking a part-time social media specialist to coordinate our social media efforts. The position is part-time (approximately 2 days/week), with a flexible schedule, starting immediately. Preference will be given to candidates with lived experience of stigma. *Note: The TCAT Coordinator and Social Media Coordinator positions may be combined for a qualified candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Devise the social media strategy, including specific objectives to meet the overall goals of Trail CAT (e.g. greater awareness of stigma and its harms, increased followers, etc.).
• Manage communications via all channels, direct development of, and at times develop new creative content, including graphic design, as required.
• Create and publish content on all social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, to grow an audience, build awareness of stigma and its harms, and ultimately, reduce the harms caused by stigma.
• Oversee site metrics and analyze results to determine reach and type of audience we are reaching. Prepare succinct reports, as required, for the CAT.
• Interact with readers and develop an understanding of the audience for each social channel, creating persuasive content that strikes a chord with the intended audience. Search out and post materials to help educate followers / the public.
• Assist members of the CAT to increase their proficiency in the use of social media to amplify the anti-stigma messaging.

Day-to-day tasks:

• Post on social media sites on a regular basis.
• Respond to comments and messages in a timely manner and direct readers to appropriate resources. Accept feedback and report back to the CAT.
• Block content considered harassment, disrespectful and/or inappropriate in nature.

Required Skills:

The ideal candidate will be a confident and experienced communicator, up-to-date on the latest social media tools, and have basic graphic design skills. They will have knowledge of the resources and research available on substance use, and a dedication to ending the harms caused by substance use. They will be proficient in working collaboratively with various organizations and individuals (including those who use substances) engaged in anti-stigma work in the community. Preference given to someone with lived experience of stigma, as related to substance use disorder, social injustice, discrimination, bigotry and/or intolerance.
• Excellent inter-personal and communication skill (approachable, respectful, sensitive, informative style)
• Two (2) years’ previous experience as a social media coordinator or related position
• Excellent knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.), as well as graphic design tools (Canva, Photoshop, etc.)
• Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel), and instructional software
• Strong project management skills with the ability to supervise multiple projects
• Organized and able to create multiple timelines, budgets, and schedules
• Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
• Excellent leadership, team building, and management skills
• Able to analyze problems and strategize for better solutions.

Our mission is to implement evidence-based, action-oriented strategies tailored to the needs of Lower Columbia communities to reduce the impact of the toxic drug crisis and improve services for people with lived and living experience of substance use (LLE).
