The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) is located in the southern interior of British Columbia and prides itself on providing smart, sustainable governance and services to its constituents throughout our 8,200 km2 region. The RDKB is seeking applications to fill a permanent, full‐time Planner position in the Planning and Development team. With the choice of either Trail or Grand Forks as the primary location, the Planner will be responsible for processing current applications and provincial referrals including variances, development permits, bylaw amendments, subdivisions and Agricultural Land Commission applications. Reporting to the Current Planning Supervisor, the Planner will also work with the public to provide information and advice regarding applications, referrals and other land use planning items.

This is a new position that will suit applicants early in their professional planning career. The position offers a variety of planning work and challenges across agricultural, ski resort, rural and other property types, as well as the opportunity to grow and develop as part of our broad and experienced team. To be considered for this opportunity, applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor degree from a recognized university in Planning or related discipline
  • Eligibility for membership with the Planning Institute of British Columbia or the Canadian Institute of Planners
  • At least one year experience in a planning office, preferably in a local government setting
  • Experience working with the Riparian Areas Protection Regulation (RAPR), or similar, considered an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable land use legislation
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
