JOB POSTING PEACE Counsellor – Temporary Castlegar Community Services Society (CCSS) is seeking a PEACE Counsellor for Children and Youth to join our team on a temporary part-time basis.

Summary of the Duties and Responsibilities of the Position: The PEACE (Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling and Empowerment) Program supports children and youth ages 3–18 who have witnessed abuse, threats, or violence in the home. The counsellor provides therapeutic support to children while also helping caregivers understand and respond to the impacts of violence. This role is ideal for someone passionate about trauma-informed practice and supporting children and families in their healing process.

5. This position is providing temporary coverage in the program. Duration of coverage is unknown.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide individual counselling and therapeutic support to children who have witnessed violence.
• Assess the impact of abuse on children and develop counselling plans in collaboration with caregivers.
• Facilitate psycho-educational support groups for children.
• Support parents and caregivers in understanding the effects of domestic violence on children.
• Connect families with appropriate community resources and supports.
• Maintain case records, statistics, and reports in accordance with program requirements.
• Participate in case consultations and community awareness activities when appropriate.
• Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in a related human or social services field.
• Minimum two years of related experience.
• Additional specialized training related to child abuse, assessment, and treatment is considered an asset.

Additional Requirements
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional ethical standards.
• Union membership required.

Title: PEACE Counsellor Job Summary: Provides counselling, education and advocacy support to children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have witnessed domestic violence. Provides emotional and parenting support for parents regarding the impact on their children of witnessing violence. Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Interviews clients, prepares case histories and outlines services provided by the organization.
2. Refers clients to more appropriate programs if needed.
3. Assesses the impact of witnessing abuse on the child, the group readiness of the child and the support needs of the abused parent.
4. Develops and conducts psycho-educational support groups for children.
5. Conducts individual counselling sessions with the child and/or individual members of his/her family using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution and psycho-education; provides emotional support.
6. Provides emotional and parenting support and referral services for parents.
7. Conducts post group interviews with children and/or their families. Recommends follow-up services where necessary and makes appropriate referrals.
8. Maintains related records, statistics and prepares reports as required.
9. Maintains current knowledge of issues and resources related to abuse and violence. Provides presentations and public awareness activities about services and issues.
10. Performs other related duties as required.

Additional Program Responsibilities
1. Applies trauma-informed, violence-informed, and child-centered approaches in all counselling and interactions with children and families.
2. Works collaboratively with community partners including schools, victim services, MCFD, and other service providers to support coordinated responses for children and youth.
3. Provides support and education to non-offending caregivers regarding the impacts of domestic violence on children and strategies that promote healing and resilience.
4. Maintains accurate and timely documentation, case files, and program statistics in accordance with funder requirements, agency policies, and privacy legislation.
5. Participates in case consultations, interdisciplinary meetings, and program planning to ensure effective service delivery.
6. Assists with community awareness, prevention activities, and presentations related to children witnessing violence when appropriate.
7. Maintains professional knowledge related to trauma, child development, and the impacts of violence on children and families.

Working Conditions
1. Work may involve exposure to emotionally difficult client situations and requires the ability to maintain professional boundaries and practice self-care strategies to mitigate vicarious trauma.
2. Some evening or community-based work may be required.

Qualifications Education and Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree in a related human / social service field. Training and Experience: Two (2) years recent related experience Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
