Job Description

Based in beautiful Trail, BC, on the traditional territory of the Sinixt, Ktunaxa, Syilx and Secwepemc peoples, the Skills Centre is hiring a part-time Building Maintenance Custodian to start on July 2, 2024.  The position pays $25.35/hr plus generous health, dental and RRSP benefits. This position is based at the Skills Centre newly renovated office building in downtown Trail.  The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining a safe and well-maintained environment for our employees, clients, and visitors.

**Responsibilities**

  1. Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the cleanliness and functionality of the building, reporting any major issues to management.
  2. Assist with the development of maintenance routines and protocols for our newly renovated building in downtown Trail.
  3. Conduct inspections of the premises to identify maintenance needs, such as repairs, leaks, or damage.
  4. Address minor repairs and maintenance issues promptly, including fixing leaks, changing light bulbs, and repairing fixtures.
  5. Assist with the move to our new building, the setup and breakdown of rooms for events or meetings, including moving furniture and equipment as needed.
  6. Assist with the maintenance of the solar array located on the building roof.
  7. Maintain the exterior of the building, including keeping sidewalks clear of snow and debris.
  8. Collaborate with external vendors and contractors for specialized maintenance and repair services when required.
  9. Monitor heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, adjusting settings as needed for optimal comfort and efficiency.
  10. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols, including the use of proper PPE when required.
  11. Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, and inspections.
  12. Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors regarding maintenance needs, scheduling, and any issues that may arise.
  13. Favourably represent the Skills Centre in actions and appearance.

**Qualifications**

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in building maintenance is a plus.
  2. Previous experience in building maintenance, custodial work, or a related field preferred.
  3. Knowledge of basic maintenance techniques, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs.
  4. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues effectively.
  5. Physical strength and stamina to perform manual labor and lift heavy objects.
  6. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  7. Ability to work independently, adhering to safety guidelines, with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  8. Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  9. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  10. Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  11. Ability to complete a criminal record check.

**Working Conditions**

– Part-time position, 25.5 hours per week.
