Office Assistant
Job Description
The Skills Centre is hiring a summer youth!
Based in beautiful Trail, BC, on the traditional territory of the Sinixt, Ktunaxa, Syilx and Secwepemc peoples, the Skills Centre is currently seeking a youth to join their team as an office assistant. This position is based at the Skills Centre office in Trail. The position offers a living wage of $21.55 per hour for 34 hours per week (8.5 hours per day, four days per week). This is a 12 week position with a start date no later than June 10, 2024.
The office assistant will work directly with the executive director and administrative assistant to help set up the Skills Centre offices, meeting rooms and other infrastructure in their new location. The office assistant will help manage supplies and work with team members to carry out activities and ensure business continuity.
Duties and tasks include:
- assist with setting up staff offices, reception, public lounge area, multi-purpose meeting rooms and file room area
- assemble staff and public use computers
- unpack and stock community kitchen equipment, including pots, pans, plates, cutlery, utensils, countertop/small appliances, and dry goods
- purchase items as needed to support transition and setup in new location
- respond to ad hoc requests
- help find solutions to challenges, e.g. sourcing materials, resolving conflicts, or overcoming logistical issues
- communicate information verbally and in writing with Skills Centre staff, contractors and suppliers
- use computer and software (Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word)
- attend bi-weekly staff meetings and check-ins with supervisor
- complete onboarding training that includes equity, diversity and inclusion training (GBA+, Indigenous Canada, safe spaces for dialogue, and inclusion fundamentals), FIOPPA Foundations Privacy and Access Fundamentals, naloxone use, anti-bullying and harassment, and organizational safety procedures
The successful applicant will require a criminal record check as well as a driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
To be eligible, youth must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
