Job Description

The Skills Centre is hiring a summer youth!   

Based in beautiful Trail, BC, on the traditional territory of the Sinixt, Ktunaxa, Syilx and Secwepemc peoples, the Skills Centre is currently seeking a youth to join their team as market researcher.

This position is based at the Skills Centre office in Trail.

The position offers a living wage of $22.85 per hour for 34 hours per week (8.5 hours per day, four days per week).

This is a 14 week position with a start date no later than May 26, 2025. 

Working with both the executive director and development manager, the market researcher is responsible for gathering, analyzing and interpreting external data and trends in support of current and existing programs as well as future programming.

Skills Centre priorities and interests include data related to the labour market, workforce and community trends. 

Duties and tasks include: 

  • Conduct labour market research using existing data, including finding information about geography, demographics, socio-economic conditions, economic conditions, and labour markets across BC 
  • Compile and analyze relevant labour market data  
  • Develop social and economic profiles of rural and natural resource areas across BC 
  • Write reports or articles of findings for internal and external use (e.g. blog posts or social media posts) 
  • Support special marketing initiatives which may include outreach to employers and other organizations, as well as coordination of marketing activities  
  • Communicate information verbally and in writing with Skills Centre staff and partners 
  • Use computer and software (Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word) 
  • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and check-ins with supervisor 
  • Complete onboarding training that includes equity, diversity and inclusion training (GBA+, Indigenous Canada, safe spaces for dialogue, and inclusion fundamentals), FIOPPA Foundations Privacy and Access Fundamentals, naloxone use, anti-bullying and harassment, and organizational safety procedures 

Skills  

  • Reading comprehension: Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents. 
  • Critical thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. 
  • Writing: Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. 
  • Active learning: Understanding how new information could be used to solve current and future problems in making decisions. 
  • Speaking: Talking to others to share information effectively. 
  • Mathematics: Using basic statistical calculations for data collection and analysis. 

The successful applicant will require a criminal record check. Occasional travel within the region may be required.  

To be eligible, youth must: 

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period 
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and 
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
