Job Description

The Front of House Beverage Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Rafters Lounge and Cashiers in Sourdough, Market Café, Taco Rojo and Paradise Lodge.

This includes:  recruitment and staff training, defining high standards of customer service, inventory control, labour management, security and strict adherence to the BC Liquor Control and Licensing Act.

The Manager will manage expenses and labour effectively and maximize revenue.

The Manager is upbeat, positive, motivated, disciplined, enjoys working in a fast paced, demanding role and thrive on the challenge.

The Manager must have extensive bar experience from public houses, lounges, night clubs and coffee/espresso bars.

The Manager will carefully monitor the atmosphere (mood, music, lighting, television and staff) in order to ensure guest comfort and maximum profitability.

The Manager is adept at promoting the brand, and has the ability to source, book and execute a variety of live music events.

The Manger will have “Serving It Right” and experience managing in a unionized environment is an asset.  Work hours are flexible and include days evening, weekends and holidays.

MAJOR RESPONSBILITIES 

  • Assume responsibility for all bar and beverage service with an eye on quality and consistency.
  • Oversee all front line operations in all F&B outlets ensuring a high standard of customer experience is met.
  • Motivate employees to provide excellence in service, to develop strong channels of communication and foster team spirit.
  • Ensure that all “Serving it Right” and BC Liquor Law procedures are followed and foster a safe working environment.
  • Staff training and coaching, Ensure the highest service and training standards are met.
  • Assist in beverage preparation and service.
  • Responsible for keeping the bars and work areas and lounge area clean tidy and organized, including storage space and coolers.
  • Assist in frontline service when necessary.
  • Inventory control/ordering.
  • Creation of bar menus, assist with costing exercises with F&B Director.
  • Hiring, team building scheduling and labour control.
  • Ensure accurate cash handling, balancing of floats, cash-outs and maintenance of POS and debit credit payment systems.
  • Assist in opening and or closing duties, ensure all duties are complete
  • Ensure terms of collective bargaining agreement are met
  • Planning, promoting and execution of special events with the highest level of professionalism, often in collaboration with RED’s Events Manager.
  • Provide awareness of and promote RED’s free shuttle service.
  • Consistently work on up selling opportunities.

KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in a related field such as business administration, hospitality.
  • Serving it Right certificate is required.

Experience

  • At least 3 years experience as a Bartender or Server
  • At least 2 years Supervisory experience in the hospitality industry.
  • Experience with recruiting, hiring and training staff is required
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and have strong knowledge and understanding of other systems, including POS and time scheduling systems.

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Able to carry stock up several flights of stairs.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish working relationships with managers, supervisors and co-workers. Able to work effectively with all departments.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to provide timely and high-quality service in order to maximize guest and employee experiences.
  • The ability to work well under pressure in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to take direction, provide direction and work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to make decisions quickly and efficiently.
  • Must have up to date knowledge of the current trends in the food and beverage industry.
  • Able to source and book live music events.
