Job Description
JOB SYNOPSIS:
Under the guidance and supervision of the Outdoor Operations Manager, the Lift Operations Supervisor’s primary role is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all lifts and handle tow within Whitewater Ski Resort. They will lead the Lift Operations team of up to 25 personnel, ensuring a safe, effective, and professional environment. This position requires a hands-on presence across the resort, identifying and reporting any potential unsafe conditions, and contributing to the exceptional mountain experience for guests and staff.
Key areas of responsibility include training Lift Operators on the safe operation of Whitewater’s ropeways in accordance with Z98 standards, providing risk management, overseeing the training and development of staff throughout the season, scheduling staff, managing payroll, and ensuring high standards of guest service through collaboration with the Lift Maintenance Department and the Outdoor Operations Manager.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support Scheduling: Create and manage the daily schedule for lift operations staff
Lift Operations: Oversee daily opening, closing, and periodic lift checks to ensure efficient and prompt start times. Ensure lift operations are following the Z98 code. This position is required to understand how each lift operates in a detailed manner.
Communication: Facilitate communication between staff and management regarding lift operational issues. Communicate hourly with the Lift Maintenance staff.
Policy Adherence: Ensure team members adhere to company and departmental policies and procedures.
Risk Management: Participate in snow removal at lifts and related areas and manage daily maintenance functions.
Supervision: Supervise lift operations employees, organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Coordination: Coordinate and review the work of lift operators and maintaining daily communication within the department.
Safety Briefings: Lead and administer safety talks and briefings for lift operators daily.
Injury Management: Oversee injury reporting and follow-up, working with First Aid Attendants to ensure proper Return to Work procedures.
Training: Conduct training sessions for new employees and update training material as required. Always aligned with the Z98 ropeway code and Whitewater’s policies and procedures.
Guest Services: Provide high standards of service, leading by example to exceed customer expectations.
Payroll Assistance: Track employee work hours and assist with payroll functions.
Performance Reviews: Conduct seasonal employee performance reviews and evaluations.
Issue Resolution: Resolve work-related problems and prepare progress and other reports as needed.
Guest Interaction: Handle challenging situations with guests and staff professionally and tactfully.
Lift Evacuations: Lead lift evacuations when necessary.
Sustainability: Promote a sustainable approach in daily lift operations planning and development.
Safety Culture: Support Whitewater’s safety culture by adhering to and promoting safety standards and practices.
Continuous Improvement: Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service.
Additional Duties: Perform other related duties, tasks, and responsibilities as required from time to time.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:
Related Ski Resort Management or Tourism Management education an asset
Must possess strong leadership skills, 2-3 years of supervisory experience required.
Minimum 2 season Lift Operations experience required.
1 year experience working on Lift Operations at Whitewater an asset.
Related experience in Lift maintenance an asset.
Strong familiarity with the current WCB regulation, CSA Z98 code and the BC Safety Act and Elevating devices regulations
Lift 151 surface lifts, Lift 152 fixed grip lifts courses required, or will be required.
Understanding all aspects of the Lift Operators’ Manual and all emergency procedures.
Experience with payroll software and MS Office required.
Completed Grade 12 education or equivalent required.
Valid BC class 5 driver’s license with clean abstract required.
Previous experience in Snowmobile operations is an asset.
Primary Language of Work: English speaking.

Strong leadership, communication, management, administrative and personnel skills
Must be a team player and able to work well with others while maintaining a calm & positive attitude, sometimes during high stress
Good physical condition (ability to lift heavy objects and constantly walking on uneven ground & comfortable working at heights.)
Advanced skiing or snowboarding ability.
Ability to work outside for extended periods in adverse weather conditions.
Must be willing to travel to the mountain and work weekends and holidays as required
Able to deal with guests and staff sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally.
Safety oriented, adhere to Occupational Health and Safety responsibility and requirements.
Employment Status/Type: Seasonal, Full-Time (Oct-April)
Compensation: Range $20 – $23 (DOE) alongside further employee perks and benefits.
