
Lifeguards and Swim Instructors
Job Description
The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK)
is inviting applications for the positions of
Lifeguards and Swim Instructors at the Castlegar
& District Community Complex.
The Castlegar & District Community Complex has been
open and welcoming guests for some time! We are
operating in a safe, organized and progressive manner.

Lifeguards join a great team of people to monitor pool
use, provide assistance to swimmers in difficulty and
render first aid treatment when required.
Swim Instructors are responsible for ensuring the safety
of participants while providing instruction for preschool,
children and adult programs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*certifications should be current and not set to expire for a
minimum of three months.
Lifeguards
• Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Award –
Pool Option (NL)
• Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor Certificate
• Standard First Aid current within 2 years
• Current CPR C certified annually
• Satisfactory Criminal Record
• Preferred: Pool Operator 1, WHMIS & other Aquatic
certifications would be an asset.
Swim Instructors
• Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor Certification.
• Current AED/CPR C recertified annually.
• Bronze Cross.
• Preferred: Standard First Aid
Multiple positions are available. These are part-time,
positions and the successful applicants will work up to 24
hours per week. The successful candidates must be
available to work a varied work schedule based on
operational demands that includes day, weekend, and/or
evening shifts.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Lifeguards
• Exceptional customer service focus.
• Able to work with patrons of varying age groups.
• Strong communication, negotiation skills.
• Independent decision-making, problem solving and
analytical skills.
• Ability to work well in a team.
• Perform physical skill requirements for NLS.
• Current knowledge of provincial legislation and health
and safety as it relates to.
• Aquatic operations.
Swim Instructors
• 15 years of age (minimum).
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to function effectively as part of a team.
• Independent decision making, problem solving and analytical skills.
• Exceptional customer service skills.

These are union positions and the current rate of pay when
working as a Lifeguard is $21.82 and when working as a
Swim Instructor is $22.62 per hour as per the collective
agreement. An additional 15% in lieu of benefits will be
added to every pay cheque.
