Job Description
We are looking for new Aquatic team members who are enthusiastic, confident, willing to learn and develop new skills and who care about their community and water safety.
By joining our team you will provide healthy recreation opportunities and water safety skill development to our community members both young and young at heart.
Develop life long skills and friendships, have the opportunity for continued training within our Aquatic Team.
Lifeguard/Swim Instructor must be able to perform rescues and first aid as required while ensuring a safe and efficient operation and ensuring the safety of participants while providing instruction for pre-school, child and adult swim instruction programs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*certifications should be current and not set to expire for a minimum of three months.
Lifeguards
• Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Award – Pool Option (NL)
• Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor Certificate
• Standard First Aid current within 2 years
• Current CPR C certified annually
• Satisfactory Criminal Record
• Preferred: Pool Operator 1, WHMIS & other Aquatic certifications would be an asset.
Swim Instructors
• Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor Certification. • Current AED/CPR C recertified annually.
• Bronze Cross.
• Preferred: Standard First Aid
Lifeguard Supervisors
• Current National Lifeguard Award – Pool Option (NL)
• Current Standard First Aid (SFA or equivalent)
• Current CPR “C” (recert annually)
• Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (SI) Preferred
• Grade 12 Diploma, GED or currently enrolled in school
• Satisfactory criminal record
• Preferred: Aquatic Fitness Instructor certification, First Aid instructor/Trainer, LST, NLI or Pool Operator L1 & L2
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES INCLUDE:
Lifeguards
• Exceptional customer service focus.
• Able to work with patrons of varying age groups.
• Strong communication, negotiation skills.
• Independent decision-making, problem solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work well in a team.
• Perform physical skill requirements for NLS.
• Current knowledge of provincial legislation and health and safety as it relates to aquatic operations.
Swim Instructors
• 15 years of age (minimum).
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to function effectively as part of a team.
• Independent decision making, problem solving and analytical skills.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
Lifeguard Supervisors
• Knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in lifeguarding
• Knowledge of the lifeguarding rules, regulations and practices
• Knowledge of emergency procedures
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, exercise considerable independence of judgement/action in the operation of the aquatic centre
The successful candidate must be available to work a varied work schedule that includes day, weekend, and/or evening shifts up to 24 hours per week.
The current rates of pay depending on experience, when working as: Lifeguard is $24.43—$27.96/hr Swim Instructor is $21.80—$25.09/hr LS1 is $26.82/hr
