JOB DESCRIPTION: JUNIOR SUMMER CAMP INSTRUCTOR CLOSING DATE: March 20, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. COMPENSATION: $21.54/hour as per Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 2087 and the City of Rossland DEPARTMENT: Rossland Recreation SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Summer Camp Manager, Recreation Programmer and Recreation Manager, the Junior Summer Camp Instructor performs a variety of duties; implements recreation activities; provides leadership and direction for summer camp programs; provides guidance to groups engaged in summer camp activities; and performs other related duties as required. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides quality customer service and maintains positive relationships with the public and fellow staff members. 2. Works with groups in implementing assigned programs. 3. Performs building attendant tasks including set-up and take-down of equipment, tables and chairs as needed. 4. Assures facilities, equipment and play areas are maintained in a clean, safe and satisfactory fashion. Checks for and reports safety hazards. 5. Assists in the coordinator and delivery of a variety of athletic and recreation programs. 6. Maintains registration attendance, safety and activity records. 7. Maintains discipline at assigned programs/facilities, enforces rules and regulations governing assigned programs and completes incident reports. 8. Renders first aid as necessary. 9. Performs related duties as assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Immediate Supervisor: Summer Camp Manager / Recreation Programmer Volunteers Positions directly supervised by this position: Manager Responsible: Manager of Recreation and Events EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: ESSENTIAL: Education: Licenses/Certificates: Specific Skills: DESIRABLE: Experience: Licenses/Certificates: Competence in all aspects of recreation instructions pertinent to program area responsible for, at a level appropriate to community requirements, acquired through practical experience, course work or a combination thereof. Competence in general administrative procedures, acquired through generally recognized course work, practical work experience or a combination thereof. 1. Clear Criminal Record Check (if over 19 years) Demonstrated ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with people and groups within the organization and the community. Experience related to summer camps. 1. Standard First Aid and CPR Level C 2. Principles of Healthy Child Development 3. Certification applicable to program area including but not limited to: NCCP Coaching Certification, NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills.
