Instructor, Academic Upgrading & Accessible Education & Training, Relief
Relief Instructors for the School of Academic Upgrading and Development are required in all academic areas at each of the six (6) centres/campuses: Castlegar, Grand Forks, Kaslo, Nakusp, Silver King (Nelson), and Trail. Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Teaching in the Academic Upgrading program at the Intermediate to Provincial Levels (equivalent to Grades 10 to 12) in:
- Biology, Chemistry, Computers, Career Planning, English, Mathematics, Physics, Social Science, Student Success
- Teaching in the Academic Upgrading program at the Fundamental Level (up to Grade 8/9) in:
- Computers, English, Literacy, Math, Science
- Teaching in the SOAR, Steps to Opportunities, Academics, and Readiness (Accessible Education & Training) program in:
- Job Readiness, Self-Awareness, Interdependence, as well as sector specific workplace skills for Food Service, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture and Sustainability, Applied Arts, Retail, Leadership.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Demonstrate a learner-centered teaching philosophy
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and technology skills
- Adaptable, flexible and able to work variable hours
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree relevant to one or more of the Academic Upgrading or Accessible Education & Training subject areas
- Experience working with adults in a learning setting
- BC Teaching Certificate or Provincial Instructional Diploma
- Experience in post-secondary instruction, learning assistance, Indigenous education, Workplace Essential Skills, English as a Second Language, student assessment and placement, and/or community liaison functions are preferred
*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
This is a relief position starting September 2024 and ending August 25, 2025. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement. The hourly range is $46.05 – $73.80 and is based on qualifications and experience.
