Job Description

The Selkirk College Teaching and Learning Institute is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Instructional Assistant, Learning Systems. Reporting to the department head of the Teaching and Learning Institute, this position supports the Instructional Designer to meet the growing needs of college instructors/faculty in the online learning environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Provides support to the department head of the Teaching and Learning Centre by:

  • Supporting fulfillment of course requests and category management in the LMS.
  • Responding to course access requests.
  • Supporting the preparation of courses for archiving.
  • Supporting the preparation of courses for instructor evaluation, program review or audit.
  • Supporting the transition to automation of course template creation and archiving.
  • Tracking and documenting tickets and requests for reporting and solutions.
  • Training instructors to use the LMS and related technologies.
  • Performing other tasks related to educational technology and learning systems.

Provides information and assistance by:

  • Responding to instructors and staff with basic Moodle support questions and trouble shooting.
  • Investigating learning tools, plugins, and resources to support TLC initiatives with learning/instructional technologies.
  • Redirecting and/or escalating unresolved requests to the department head.
  • Providing support for emergencies related to the LMS or other learning technologies.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Moodle and Web Forms.
  • Ability to work well with a team and solve problems for instructors quickly.
  • Technical and analytical skills related to LMS support.
  • Exceptional soft skills to assist instructional staff.
  • Ability to communicate complicated technology concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Basic proficiency with HTML, Multimedia skills or other coding language skills are desirable (would be assets).
  • Familiar with Microsoft OneDrive & Office (Word and Excel) for reporting is desirable.

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Educational Technology, Instructional Technology, or Information Technology, Computer Science w/ Web Design and related fields with experience in adult education; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience teaching and/or learning in an online learning environment preferably using LMS technology would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of other learning technologies would be considered an asset.
  • Professional Instructor Diploma (Vancouver Community College) or similar diploma /certificates from, would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a client support role with an LMS or other learning technologies in an adult learning environment (College or University) preferred.

This is a non-regular, part-time (50%) position commencing July 2, 2024, and ending July 31, 2025. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the the BC Government Employees Union (BCGEU) Collective Agreement, Schedule B. The salary range is $2,210.65 – $3,542.46 (at a 100% appointment) bi-weekly, based on qualifications and experience.
