Job Description

Reporting to the Ancillary Services Manager and utilizing a service excellence approach, this position provides a variety of administrative and support services for Selkirk Housing operations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Ensuring the housing is run in an efficient manner, consistent with mission, values, and vision of Selkirk College by:

  • Assisting the Housing Coordinator with the review of applications, responding to inquiries for information, assisting in the management of the housing waitlists, processing room assignments, calculation and data entry of damage and cleaning charges, producing routine office communications.
  • Assisting with all administrative tasks including responding to inquiries for information, preparing correspondence, updating data base, maintaining reports, files and petty cash.
  • Assisting the Housing Coordinators and guiding the Resident Advisors in developing and promoting a positive living environment that is respectful, safe, supportive, and friendly.
  • Performing periodic room inspections, collecting detailed information regarding issues in student rooms and building, submitting workorders.
  • Collecting and processing payments of rent and other related fees as required.
  • Assisting with student move in and move out including scheduling and creating and maintaining files and reports.
  • Assisting with the issuing, monitoring, and control of all keys within housing.

Development of Student Life Activities:

  • Developing professional relationships with all students in housing.
  • Assisting in providing direction as to the supports available to students regarding personal and medical situations.
  • Assisting in communicating and enforcing housing policies, behavior standards, and emergency procedures.
  • Assisting Resident Advisors in implementing programs that involve social, athletic, and academic aspects.
  • Assisting in the coordination of actions in emergency evacuations and situations.

Supports Summer Conferencing and Short Stays at Housing:

  • Assisting Housing Coordinators with all aspects of summer conferences and short stays at Selkirk housing.
  • Provides additional coverage and performs other duties as assigned by the Manager.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows, MS Office.
  • Ability to edit and proofread documents.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the student Ledger system (SLED).

Education and Experience

  • High School graduation, plus completion of a one-year Office Administration Program.
  • First Aid – Level 1.
  • FOODSAFE Level 1 Certification.
  • Minimum 2 years related experience.
  • Experience working with young adults in a post secondary residential setting.

This is a regular, 50% position commencing approximately March 25, 2024. The salary is pay grade 7 – $31.16 per hour – in accordance with the PPWC Collective Agreement.
