Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician
Job Description
An employee in this classification is engaged in construction, maintenance and repairs of all district buildings, equipment, and furniture.
Reporting to:
Director of Operations or designate
Illustrative Examples of Work:
1. Service and maintain all types of mechanical systems related to heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
2. Service work on roof top mounted equipment, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
3. Service gas fired burner systems for domestic hot water and heating systems.
4. Perform preventative maintenance work on mechanical systems and develop preventative maintenance schedule. 5. Install new mechanical equipment.
6. Construct and install sheet metal duct work, etc.
7. Provide general welding and soldering repairs to mechanical equipment.
8. Provide general service maintenance of gas equipment used for instructional needs.
9. Carry out repairs and servicing of control systems.
10. Perform minor maintenance tasks related to other mechanical and systems trades as required.
11. Perform maintenance tasks as assigned in the areas of structural maintenance needs.
12. Prioritize work assignments and ensure work is conducted relevant to building and safety codes.
13. Co-ordinate equipment and material requirements for individual work orders and preventative maintenance.
14. Prepare purchase orders, obtain supplies as required and recommend equipment purchases or replacement.

16. Removes snow and ice and sands or salts from parking areas, sidewalks and driveways
Required Abilities and Qualifications:
1. Grade 12 or equivalent
2. Hold a valid Class “A” or “B” gas fitter license
3. Certification as a journeyman
4. Three years’ working experience in maintenance within the trades related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning and control systems.
5. Hold Certification and have two years’ experience in calibration, operation and servicing of pneumatic, electrical, electronic and computerized direct digital control systems.
6. Demonstrated ability to take direction and carry out assigned duties independently.
7. Demonstrated ability to perform all aspects of refrigeration and gas fitting trades competently.
8. Working knowledge of other related maintenance trades connected with physical plan servicing.
9. Demonstrated ability to work both alone and as part of a team with other trades persons.
10. Physical ability to perform the job duties.
11. Hold a valid B.C. Driver’s License

End Date: July 26, 2024 or full return of the incumbent NOTE: This assignment may end prior to the end date, or it may be extended.
Salary for the above listed position(s) will be in accordance with Schedule “A” of the Collective Agreement in effect between the Board of Education and Local 1285, Canadian Union of Public Employees. Appointments are subject to Section 15, 16 and 17 of the Collective Agreement.
