Job Description

The School of Health and Human Services is looking for three instructors for the Health Care Assistant (HCA) program. These positions will be short-term to teach in the long-term care (LTC) clinical setting in the Trail, Castlegar and New Denver/Nakusp areas, and skills lab setting.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support clinical education for Health Care Assistant students in LTC and lab settings.
  • Provide ongoing written and verbal feedback to students.
  • Foster practice partners and College relationships.
  • Communicate with practice partners to ensure common understanding of learning outcomes of practice course.
  • Provide face-to-face instruction of lab courses and be available for student consultation.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Participate in instructional team meetings.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and time management skills.
  • 3-5 years of recent, relevant practice experience in long term care.
  • Understanding of the context and scope of practice of the Health Care Assistant in British Columbia.

Education and Experience

  • Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.
  • Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary setting is an asset.
  • Provincial Instructor Diploma qualification is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Please Note: Candidates must be able to demonstrate compliance with PHO orders with respect to COVID-19 vaccine requirement.

These positions are non-regular, and will range between 65-80% FTE commencing April 15, 2024, and ending between July 12, 2024, and August 23, 2024, depending on work awarded. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the BC Government Employees Union (BCGEU) Collective Agreement, Appendix A. The salary range is $2,369 – $3,807 bi-weekly (at a 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.
