Teck is looking for an experienced Group Leader, Execution and Infrastructure to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world’s largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Metallurgy Development Manager, the Group Leader, Execution and Infrastructure is accountable for facilities management, execution of pilot plants construction and operation, supporting plant trial activities, coordination of external trades, contractors and vendors for project needs and supervision of shared technician resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead and mentor a team of technicians by managing day-to-day activities, setting and developing priorities and expectations, driving performance and excellence, and organizing work to achieve a positive working environment
  • Maintain the physical assets of the Metallurgy Development team including building infrastructures (business development Warfield), testing facilities and labs, and equipment. Coordinate all building and equipment maintenance
  • Complete annual reporting for asbestos, structural integrity, environmental aspect assessments and hazardous material inventory
  • Coordinate and/or implement improvements to testing facilities and labs in alignment with the needs of the Metallurgy Development group
  • Lead the construction and installation of pilot plants as designed by the process optimization and feed assessment teams
    • Coordinate resources, procure equipment and manage schedule and budget
  • Support plant trials including coordinating activities with other function groups, conducting risk assessments, completing plant trial documentation, and/or scheduling resources
    • Manage and retain all documentation in alignment with knowledge management and project management standards
  • Manage project timeline, resources and budgets as required using project management tools and software
  • Coordinate and/or support management of change and risk assessment activities for projects within the Metallurgy Development teams
  • Manage the development and review of Control Documents for the Metallurgy Development activities.  Train personnel as required on all procedures
  • Coordinate inductions of new employees or others into the Business Development Warfield buildings

Qualifications:

  • 4 years’ minimum experience in project coordination, project management, construction management, pilot plant operations or hands on metallurgical processes experience required
  • Trades Certification, Project Management Professional (PMP) or Graduate of a recognized Institute of Technology or University in metallurgical, mineral processing or chemical sciences or other related degree or certification required
  • Experience in an industrial environment is required
  • 2 years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others and work with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner and possess time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, communication, and relationship building skills with demonstrated ability to relate to all levels of the organization
  • Ability to provide leadership to a diverse team including union members
  • Experience with risk assessments, risk management and management of change preferred
  • Strong problem-solving skills required
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with process equipment required
  • Experience with project management tools and project coordination activities required

Salary Range: $101,000 – $125,000

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Please note this role does require the successful candidate to live within 100KM of Trail, British Columbia. Relocation assistance will be offered however there is no camp or company housing.
