Job Description

General Maintenance, On-Call

Reporting to the Director of Facilities, this position performs routine maintenance and minor repairs, assists trade staff in performing trade-level work and assists with general groundskeeping support as required. This position will require travel between campuses.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Perform equipment, building maintenance and minor repair work including:

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to mechanical, plumbing, electrical and carpentry:
    • § Make up, clear, and replace sinks, toilets, or exhaust fans.
    • § Repair leaky pipes and fixtures
    • § Clear plugged drains, sinks, toilets.
    • § Test electrical breakers to check for power outages.
    • § Replace light bulbs and make minor electrical repairs.
    • § Install and service door locks and window fasteners, etc.
    • Inspect exit and emergency lights; maintain a log and arrange for repairs required.
    • Respond to emergency situations such as floods or power outages.
    • Receive instructions and work with our maintenance technicians as a helper to repair and maintain campus buildings, modify, renovate, or build office or related facilities, build, and install furniture, cabinets and shelving units, repair office furniture, doors, windows, frames, roof leaks, apply dry walling, mix and apply paints for touch up repair work, etc.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Must be in good physical condition.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in team environment.
  • Must have a valid forklift operating certificate.
  • Ability to multitask, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to focus on individual tasks are required.

Education and Experience

  • High School graduation.
  • WHMIS certification.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
  • Minimum 3-4 years related experience in performing routine maintenance operations and rudimentary technical knowledge (such as working knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems).
  • Familiar with the operation of building and maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Trade certifications preferred.

This is an on-call position commencing approximately May 26, 2024. Salary will be Pay Grade 9, $33.67 per hour (Subject to JE Review), in accordance with the PPWC Collective Agreement.
