The FireSmart Coordinator plays a critical role in the Village’s wildfire preparedness, prevention, and mitigation efforts through public education, assessments, and fuel modification work aimed at reducing community risk from wildfires.
You will be responsible for the facilitation of all FireSmart related activities within the Village including support, development, and implementation of FireSmart program guidelines.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in local government, structural firefighting, or forestry who is interested in facilitating FireSmart related activities.
You will be the main point of contact for the Village’s FireSmart Program while monitoring the Community Resiliency Initiative (CRI) program budget, activities, contractors and grant reporting.
Key components include FireSmart Home Ignition Assessments, organizing community fuel modifications, as well as public education through the coordination of Community Wildfire Preparedness Day and participation in farmer’s markets, local sporting events, school presentations, and tradeshows to engage with the public and distribute FireSmart information.
You will be part of a team that includes a Youth FireSmart Coordinator and volunteers engaged in the FireSmart Canada Neighbourhood Recognition Program.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Thorough knowledge of wildfire behavior and wildfire management principles
- 3 years of related experience
- Grade 12 or equivalent education
- FireSmart 101 qualification
- Certified Wildfire Training – WSPP-WFF1 (or S100 & S185)
- Completion of the Wildfire Risk Reduction course
- Local FireSmart Representative qualification
- Wildfire Mitigation Specialist certification
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s Licence
