
Faculty, Education Assistant & Community Support Worker

The School of Health and Human Services is seeking an instructor for the Education Assistant and Community Support Worker (EACSW) courses that are part of the Health Care Assistant Diploma (HCAD) program for international students. This role includes delivering face-to-face and online instruction, contributing to curriculum development and program improvement and may include supervising student practicums in K–12 schools and community settings.
The successful candidate will bring a trauma-informed teaching approach, a philosophy grounded in equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and a commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs. Given the international student cohort, cultural competence is crucial in ensuring that instruction is responsive to the diverse backgrounds and learning experiences of the students. This position plays a key role in preparing graduates to work inclusively and effectively across educational and community environments.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, inclusive instruction using a variety of face-to-face and online methods, ensuring approaches are culturally sensitive and adaptable to diverse backgrounds
- Support and supervise students in practicum placements in K–12 and community-based settings, fostering a safe and inclusive space for students to practice and apply their learning.
- Communicate with practicum partners to ensure alignment with course and program learning outcomes, taking into consideration cultural differences and the unique needs of all students
- Provide constructive, timely feedback and evaluate student learning and progress
- Foster a respectful, trauma-informed, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success and wellbeing
- Integrate EDI principles and practices into curriculum delivery and classroom culture
- Support students with diverse learning needs through inclusive instructional strategies and appropriate accommodations
- Participate in curriculum review and development to maintain relevance and responsiveness
- Collaborate with instructional team members to enhance program quality and learner experience
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to support and engage students with diverse learning needs and culturally varied backgrounds
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed pedagogy and inclusive education practices
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in teaching and learning
- Proficiency in the use of learning management systems (e.g., Moodle) and digital teaching tools
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty, and community partners from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Familiarity with person-centered planning and its application in both educational and community support settings
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with practicum partners and community agencies recognizing diverse cultural needs
Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Special Education, Disability Studies or a closely related field is preferred*
- Three – five years of current, recent, and relevant professional practice on school and community-based teams working with individuals across the lifespan with complex needs.
- Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary setting is an asset
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
This is a short-term, part-time (46%) position, commencing August 1, 2025, and ending April 30, 2026. Salary and Benefits are in accordance with the SCFA Collective Agreement. The salary range is $2,709.12 – $4,341.23 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience
