Faculty Assistant, Healthy Campus

Reporting to the Director, Student Engagement & Wellness, the Faculty Assistant, Healthy Campus provides support for the Former Youth in Care (FYIC) student population eligible for the Provincial Tuition Waiver Program (PTWP) through connection with Selkirk College and community resource. This project requires working within our strategic directions, policies and procedures, external agencies, learning and working environments, services and supports and physical spaces.

** This is a casual, project-based position, with a maximum of 500 paid hours.

The outcomes for the project include:

  • Determining and implement strategies/initiatives that can be used to identify and support FYIC on campus
  • Collaborating with campus and community partners on resources to support FYIC students and promote the PTWP
  • Identifying, reviewing and assessing existing supports and resources within Selkirk College and the community

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Supports the Healthy Campus Coordinator with:

  • Meeting with current or prospective FYIC students
  • Outreach and collaboration with community partners and Selkirk College departments (Recruitment, Financial Aid, SAS etc.)  to ensure effective supports for current and potential FYIC students as well as promotion of PTWP
  • Promotion of the Strengthening Abilities and Journeys of Empowerment (SAJE) program
  • Supporting FYIC with accessing college and community resources
  • Record keeping and disbursement of supports and funds for FYIC eligible for the PTWP
  • Development and execution of initiatives for current and prospective FYIC students

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Commitment to applying trauma-informed lens to project
  • Proven ability to complete tasks under pressure, be flexible, able to prioritize work and meet deadlines

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, such Social Work or a Human Service related field.
  • 3 years’ experience in Social Work or a related field, specifically with vulnerable/marginalized youth
  • Experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Experience in working effectively with international, racialized/ethnic minorities, indigenous, LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities.

This is a short-term, casual appointment commencing immediately and ending March 31, 2025. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement, Schedule B. The salary range is $30.96 – $49.61 per hour and is based on qualifications and experience.
