The School of University Arts and Sciences invites applications for a Chemistry lab faculty assistant. The successful candidate will support student learning by assisting faculty and by setting up and taking down chemistry labs. This is a temporary, leave-replacement position at the Castlegar campus commencing as soon as possible.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinate the setting up, delivery, and taking down of labs with Chemistry faculty.
• Assist faculty during labs.
• Prepare demonstration and lab materials for lab instruction and experiments.
• Demonstrate and enforce safe lab practices and policies.
• Organize and maintain lab supplies, equipment, chemicals, and safety data sheets.
• Coordinate with college staff the purchasing and receiving of supplies and equipment.
• Maintain an up-to-date account of expenditures on lab materials and equipment.
• Ensure that chemicals and hazardous materials are stored and disposed according to WHMIS regulations.
• Perform other duties assigned by the School Chair

Education and Experience

• Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or a related discipline
• Demonstrated successful work experience in a science laboratory.
• Previous Faculty Assistant experience at a post-secondary institution is an asset.

This is a short-term, part-time (60%) leave-replacement position from March 1, 2024 to April 30, 2024, with the possibility of extension depending on the return of the incumbent. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement, Schedule B. The salary range is $2,104.15 – $3,371.81 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.
