Role and Objectives:

The Electrician at our Mass Timber Facility, under the direction of Electrical Supervisor is responsible for the efficient running and preventative maintenance of the equipment throughout the plant.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Respond to break down calls at all machine centers throughout both facilities, beam shop and KMT main.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and adhere to Canadian Electrical Code for all electrical equipment installations.
  • Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fibre-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
  • Maintain, repair, install and test switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators, and reactors.
  • Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, alternators, industrial storage batteries and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical, and electronic control systems and other related devices.
  • Ability to understand production goals, needs, and implement effective upgrades and changes that improve equipment speed, function or ease of use.
  • Servicing generators, motors, and high voltage systems. Grounding electrical systems. Etc.
  • Proper, safe, and efficient use of hand tools and testing equipment like wire cutters, soldering tools, calibrators, and counters.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records.
  • May install, maintain, and calibrate industrial instrumentation and related devices.
  • Develop in-house procedures for equipment maintenance, support, etc.
  • Coach and train newer team members on procedures specific to the facilities.
  • Maintaining shop organization and cleanliness.
  • Documentation and administrative functions such as, but not limited to: Shift Reports, parts lists, work-order creation/completion/adjustment, purchase orders, etc.
  • Other duties as requested or required.
  • PLC programming experience is considered an asset.

Requirements:

  • 2 Years’ experience in industrial environment, preference to those working in sawmills, or in wood manufacturing facilities.
  • Industrial Trade Certification, an asset
  • Complete knowledge of electrical codes, systems, and components
  • Forklift experience, with preference to those with a current certification.
  • Arial platform experience, with preference to those with a current certification.
  • Knowledge of production equipment and processing lines, an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to share knowledge within a team setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with other trades, preference to those with experience in different trades, such as millwright or mechanical.

Work Conditions

  • Overtime as required.
  • Occasional exposure to dust, noise, and fumes when visiting various sites.
  • Visual acuity – ability differential between several different colours, when performing wiring duties
  • Exposure to industrial noise, moving equipment, and overlapping work-zones.
  • Exposure to safety lockouts and access to equipment. Fitting in and functioning in cramped spaces is required from time to time.
  • Frequent finger dexterity, as well as body agility and balance
  • Requires frequent stooping/bending/crouching, reaching, handling, finger dexterity, sitting, standing, walking, and lifting 50 or more lbs.
  • Occasional climbing and carrying and executing tasks at a height.
  • Provide own tools for the job.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills – ability to communicate effectively, on and off radio.

Compensation Package:

  • Wage: 35.00 – $47.00 an hour.  Depending on Experience.
