As one of our hydroelectric generating stations Electric Engineers, you will utilize professional level engineering to support the timely, safe and cost-effective operation of the nine hydroelectric generating stations FortisBC’s own or operate

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and work as a part of multi-discipline teams to develop and execute projects.
  • Manage engineering projects to maintain and modernize our hydroelectric generating stations.
  • Manage engineering consultants and engineering specialists.
  • Assess operational issues, evaluate technical alternatives, determine the best solution to meet our technical and business needs.
  • Prepare cost estimates, you will determine the project scope, cost and schedule.
  • Prepare and manage the engineering consultants in development of detailed construction packages.
  • Participate in engineering investigations to troubleshoot, evaluate, and provide recommendations on operational issues.
  • Assess, report and identify solutions to safety hazards associated with maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide operational support to FortisBC internal stakeholders.
  • Provide engineering services for various aspects of hydroelectric generating stations design and equipment specifications.
  • Maintain current detailed knowledge of design criteria, material and processes through suppliers, literature, and industry organizations and conferences

In year 1, you will:

  • Familiarize and learn all about FortisBC’s standards, guidelines and practices related to this responsibility.
  • Work in the field with Project Management and Operations to understand FortisBC business.
  • Support FortisBC in improving and optimizing our hydroelectric generating stations.
  • Build a strong knowledge base to understand equipment condition base maintenance.

In year 2, you will:

  • Handle all key responsibilities independently with minimal support from a supervisor.

What it takes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering,
  • Experience in the design or operation of hydroelectric generating stations is an asset.
  • Must meet registration requirements for Professional Engineering status with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the electrical utility environment is an asset.
  • Experience with demonstrated field experience is an asset.
  • Experience with project management is an asset
  • Experience with work in multi-disciplinary engineering teams is an asset.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management of the engineering design process is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with various commonly used software such as MS Office, MS-Project and SharePoint.
