Building Service Worker, Housing – On-Call
Reporting to the Ancillary Services Manager and utilizing a service excellence approach, this position provides custodial services, general facility, grounds maintenance, and security functions for Selkirk Housing facilities. Schedule flexibility is vital. Day, evening and weekend shifts are required of this position.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Performs custodial duties, including:
- Dusting, garbage collection, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, washrooms, etc.
- Housekeeping tasks such as bed‐making, sheet‐changing, laundry, replenishing coffee, towels, and toiletries
- Manual labour such as carpet cleaning, scrubbing/polishing floors, moving furniture etc.
- Exterior building maintenance, such as window washing and pressure washing etc.
- Reporting maintenance problems and equipment in need of repair
- Maintenance and minor repairs to assigned tools and equipment
- Setting up and taking down for special events and functions
- General maintenance of the facility
- Replenishing custodial supplies
Performs security and service functions, including:
- Ensuring the security of guest rooms and the privacy of guests
- Reporting evidence of intrusion or other security issues to management
- Ensuring that public areas and entrances are clean and orderly at the beginning of the day
- Assisting in special situations such as power outages, and emergency evacuation Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience
- High school graduation
- Custodial Training Certificate
- WHMIS certification
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- First Aid Certificate preferred
- Minimum 1‐year custodial experience in a public institution
This is an on-call position (0%) position, commencing as soon as possible. Salary will be Pay Grade 5, $29.47 per hour in accordance with the PPWC Collective Agreement.
