
Building Administrative Support
Job Description
he Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK), is accepting applications for the position of Building Administrative Support.
The Building Administrative Support provides direct administrative support to Building Officials in Nelson.
The Building Administrative Support provides service to the general public in the building permit application and issuance processes.
In conjunction with the Building Official, the Building Administrative Support will communicate with property owners, building contractors and other persons involved in the development business as they seek to comply with the regulatory system through which development is managed.
The incumbent is not directly responsible for individual permit processes but rather is a valued member of the team who will assume responsibility for the management of the administrative processes associated with local government building regulation in Nelson and the surrounding Areas and Villages.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES INCLUDE:
• Thorough knowledge and expert ability in advanced use of advanced Microsoft Office software;
• Self-directed and task orientated with a demonstrated ability to resource solutions;
• Willingness to regularly reach out and assist other members of the building inspection team in other offices as workloads vary from office to office;
• Minimum net typing speed of 50 wpm;
• Good command of the English language and grammar;
• Ability to learn and become proficient in land use in new computer programs e.g. Tempest, Agresso;
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently but within a consultative teamwork approach;
• Demonstrated knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment;
• Proven ability to maintain composure and work effectively under pressure and when assisting others;
• Proven ability to use tact and diplomacy while having the ability to show compassion and empathy;
• Ability to read maps, understand line drawing building plans and proficiently read and understand property title information such as covenants and other legal notations attached to property titles;
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• High school graduation supplemented with related business college or office administration courses or experience demonstrating equivalence to these requirements;
• A minimum of three years related work experience, preferably in the context of local government office administration environment; and
• Order for the Appointment of a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits or willingness to attain.
This is a full time benefited position working 35 hours per week.
he normal hourly rate for this position is $29.01, but varies between $27.75 to $31.54 dependant on experience.
