Job Description

Are you passionate about history, archives, and making documentary heritage more accessible? The Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre (RMDC) is hiring an Archives Assistant to help preserve, manage, and share our archives with the public. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in archival management, research, and museum operations while contributing to an exciting period of transformation at RMDC.
The RMDC preserves and dynamically presents the history and culture of Rossland and its surrounding areas. With a focus on mining and skiing history, the museum features comprehensive indoor and outdoor exhibits, an extensive community archive, a visitor information centre, and a wide range of educational programs and special events.
Key Responsibilities:
Archives Management
-Assist in digitizing and rehousing negatives, film reels, and other archival materials
-Maintain and update the archives database
-Support inventory tracking and archival care best practices
-Coordinate and mobilize volunteers for archives-related projects
Exhibition Development & Public Access
-Manage public research requests
-Assist with internal research projects
-Assist with incoming archive donations
-Contribute to digital initiatives, including online collections access and social media content
-Support community engagement through public workshops and educational initiatives
Museum Operations Support
-Assist with daily museum operations, including visitor services and general upkeep
-Support museum tours and educational programming as needed
-Participate in major museum events and special programs
-Other duties as needed and as time permits

Who We’re Looking for:
A current student in archival, library, museum, or history/heritage studies, or related fields
Organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, with excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
Excellent research/sourcing skills and ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy under pressure.
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
Passion for education and history and working with people of all ages and backgrounds
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Familiarity with the Rules for Archival Description and current archival preservation methods
Customer service or public speaking experience
Knowledge of Rossland’s history or geology is a plus!
