Teck is looking for an experienced Accountant to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world’s largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Superintendent, Financial Reporting, the Accountant is responsible for the accounting requirements for one or more of Trail Operations’ functional departments. Responsibilities include overseeing the accounts payable processing, developing/coordinating the flow of accurate and timely information for internal reporting, and aiding in the development and adherence to departmental practices and procedures.

To be successful in this job, we require someone with a solid understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards as well as excellent time management, communication, problem solving and digital literacy skills.

This role is based in the welcoming community of Trail, situated in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Here you will find outdoor adventure at your fingertips! Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide financial expertise to support departments in evaluating operating scenarios, determining project economics and analyzing business cases
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the business model for Trail Operations
  • Contribute to cost efficient operations for one or more support departments
  • Develop and implement continuous improvements to systems, departmental practices and processes
  • Develop and test new enhancements and troubleshoot issues within the company’s accounting software
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial and cost reports for support departments
  • Ensure integrity of applicable general ledger account balances
  • Maintain and update business process documentation and test conformance to policies and procedures
  • Provide leadership and direction to direct reports

Qualifications:

  • University degree with relevant business experience required
  • Chartered Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting or finance preferably in a related industry
  • Understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and accounting concepts
  • Proven ability to identify and implement improvements to financial systems and procedures
  • Experience using ERP systems such as JD Edwards as well as digital literacy in MS Office

Salary Range: $10100.00 – $12500.00  per year

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.Please note this role does require the successful candidate to live within 100KM of Trail. British, Columbia. Relocation assistance will be offered however there is no camp or company housing.
