Job Description

The City of Trail’s Public Works Department is seeking a motivated, team-focused individual to fill the temporary full-time position of 4×4 Winter Shift / Public Works Labourer. This position is to cover a leave of absence the duration of which is unknown.

Reporting to the Grounds/Roads Superintendent, or other designated individuals, the 4×4 Winter Shift / Public Works Labourer is responsible for a variety of tasks, primarily for but not limited to Roads and Utility Departments.  The 4×4 Winter Shift / Public Works Labourer works on rotating 12 hour shifts as required by the applicable departments for the designated winter months and transfers to regular days for the off season.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Must have previous training and experience on loaders, backhoes, excavators, graders, sand and plow trucks.
  • Must have good mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be willing to work 12-hour night and day shifts on all days of the week, as set out in the shift schedule.  Must be able to work without supervision and to be able to stay alert during extended snow removal procedures at all hours of the day.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License – Class 3 with air endorsement.

This position is with the CUPE Local 2087 Bargaining Unit.  Wages are $37.46 while performing the 12-hour winter shifts and $37.00 per hour when working regular days.
