Job Description

The City of Trail’s Public Works Department is seeking a motivated, team oriented individual to fill the temporary full-time position of 4×4 Winter Shift / Parks & Irrigation Labourer.

Reporting to the Grounds/Roads Superintendent, the 4×4 Winter Shift / Parks & Irrigation Labourer will perform snow removal duties during the winter season working on rotating 12 hour shifts and assist with irrigation duties during startup and winterizing (Spring/Fall).  The incumbent will also be given preference to providing relief coverage for the Irrigation Operator when required.  Turf maintenance duties for the position include hand mowing, trimming, weed whipping and tree pruning.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Must be willing to work 12-hour night and day shifts on all days of the week, as set out in the winter shift schedule.
  • Must have and maintain a valid B.C. Driver’s Licence – Class 3 with air endorsement.
  • Must have previous training and experience on loaders, backhoes, excavators, grader, sand and plow trucks.
  •  The following licenses, certificates and training are not required but would be desirable:
    • Successfully completed both CIT-1 training through I.I.A.B.C.
    • Certified Irrigation Scheduler course through I.I.A.B.C.
    • Toro Sentinel Software Training course.

The wages and benefits for this CUPE Local 2087 position are $35.68 per hour (2023 rate).
