
Silviculture Forester
Job Description
When you join our team as a Silviculture Forester, you will be responsible for various portions of the silviculture program including the planning, and management of mechanical site preparation, seed procurement, tree planting, stand tending, and survey activities. This is a growth position with opportunities for increased responsibilities and leadership. The successful candidate will play a role in ensuring all legal and social obligations are met in a cost-efficient manner.
What You’ll Do
Promote, lead and exhibit Interfor Safety Culture. Meet divisional and corporate environmental goals, compliance with regulatory requirements and Sustainable Forestry Initiative certification standards. Assist in the planning, implementation, administration and management of the silviculture program, and post-harvest activities. Provide leadership and direction to contractors, consultants, and junior staff. Manage safety, quality, environmental, and production goals with contractors.
What You Offer
Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) with the FPBC in good standing, or eligible for registration. Minimum 2 years of forestry experience in a similar capacity and a passion for silviculture. Willingness to learn, be creative and adapt to change. Knowledge of forest legislation, regulations and guidelines specific to silviculture. Proficiency with databases, Excel, Word and Powerpoint. Experience supervising staff and/or contractors. Flexible schedule, especially in the spring. Familiarity with silviculture software including LRM, ARCView, Plant/Survey Wizard SNAP and Government of BC forestry applications. Possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job. Positive attitude, dependable and able to work effectively in an interactive and energetic team environment. Work efficiently and be able to prioritize multiple projects/tasks. Identify and reduce risk, throughout all aspects of the program. Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated strong analytical, innovative, and logical thinking skills.
