Job Description

Our philosophy is to be collaborative and cooperative internally with staff / volunteers and in the community. Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Support, advocacy, information, education, crisis intervention and referrals for people using the services.

  2. Screen people prior to admission. Perform intake and discharge duties. Orientate and assist people to settle in the shelter.

  3. Assess people’s immediate needs and assist them in defining an action plan. Provide resource information and recommend appropriate services.

  4. Monitor and ensure the safety and comfort for people using the shelter. Facilitate any conflict resolution that may occur.

  5. Provide emotional support, encouragement, and problem solves issues.

  6. Maintain current knowledge of issues and resources related to poverty and homelessness.

  7. Maintain records, documents, forms and statistics.

  8. Respect confidentially about people using the shelter as well as staff and committee.

  9. Prepare snacks as needed.

  10. Prepare beds and clean nightly. (Bathroom included)

  11. Provide emergency first aid as required.

  12. Follow House Policies and Procedures and ensure continuity.

Specific Job Qualifications:

  1. Valid Emergency First Aid/CPR

  2. Current TB skin test

  3. Food Safe

  4. Satisfactory Criminal Record

  5. Ability to use interventions processes that are sensitive to age, income, gender, racial and ethnic-cultural issues.

  6. Strong problem solving skills.

  7. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to work independently with minimal direction, to take initiative. To organize, prioritize and meet deadlines.

  8. Ability to establish rapport with clients.

  9. Demonstrated ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with the public, coworkers and staff from other organizations

  10. Demonstrated experience/willingness to learn how to work with multi-diagnosed individuals (addictions, mental health issues etc).

  11. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  12. Ability to carry out the physical and mental demands of the position.
