Job Description

Boundary Family Services (BFS) is looking for a Shelter Support Worker who will provide direct support to the clientele of the Safe Stay Shelter. Applicant must be willing to work a flexible schedule that could include night shifts and weekend work. A criminal record check will be required. Duties: -Receive and admit clients -Assess and assist with client personal needs -Communicate effectively with clients through active listening and problem-solving -Recommend appropriate community resources -Monitor client activities and provide effective intervention in crisis situations -Prepare and serve meals as required -Clean all areas as assigned on a regular basis -Ensure the safety and well-being of clients -Support a harm reduction model in the community

What You Should Bring to the Team: -Strong communication skills specifically in conflict resolution and nonviolent crisis intervention -Experience working in a shelter environment -Experience with life skills such as cooking, and cleaning -Knowledge of harm reduction, community service agencies and the homeless population -Ability to use sound judgement, perform job duties with minimal supervision and problem solve -Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, staff, community agencies and the public
