Job Description

The City of Trail’s Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual to fill the permanent, full-time position of Recreation Facilities Maintenance Foreman.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation, or designate, the Recreation Facilities Maintenance Foreman performs supervisory, administrative, planning, scheduling and other operational duties related to the successful operation and delivery of service at all City parks and recreation facilities designated to the Department to operate.

This position performs skilled work involving moderate complexity and variation while being responsible for directing staff and performing related duties. A wide latitude of actions may be required while performing under minimal supervision. The incumbent must therefore be able to make independent decisions, direct subordinates and complete necessary follow-up as part of ensuring work identified is being successfully completed and that services are not being interrupted.

Qualifications and certifications required for the position include:

Minimum five years supervisory experience within medium to large sized recreational facilities. Thorough and demonstrated knowledge of building operations including HVAC-R, janitorial, building trades, ice making/maintenance, refrigeration plant operation and maintenance, pool systems operations and maintenance, and park, playground and playing field operation and maintenance. Strong supervisory ability and demonstrated capability to supervise staff effectively. 4th Class power engineer’s certificate and qualification or higher, or refrigeration mechanic as recognized under the Power Engineers, Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Safety Regulation. A Building Technologist diploma or red-seal trade qualification in conjunction with a Refrigeration Operator certificate may also be considered.

This position is within the CUPE Local 2087 Bargaining Unit. Wages, benefits and hours of work are as per the Collective Agreement. The hourly wage for the position is currently $43.72
