Agency Summary Freedom Quest provides free, community-based, client-centered, low-barrier, confidential, voluntary, and non-judgmental services and programming to youth who are, or who are risk of being, adversely affected by substance use in the West Kootenay Boundary Region. Freedom Quest’s services and programming support these young people in experiencing new opportunities, overcoming barriers, preventing further adversity, building positive relationships, and developing the confidence and skills for life.
Program Summary Freedom Quest’s Therapeutic Recreation Program supports all Freedom Quest programs and services, local schools, and other local youth-serving organizations by providing free access to therapeutic activity-based recreation opportunities that would otherwise be inaccessible.
Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Education
A degree in child and youth care, social work or related field with specialization in administering recreation programming. A combination of education and experience that would be equivalent may be accepted.
Three years of experience working with youth who are adversely affected by substances Three years of experience working with youth in an outdoor/wilderness setting Experience working therapeutically with groups Experience working in a counselling capacity using a variety of therapeutic theories, modalities, and tools (for example: narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, non-violent communication, solution-focused therapy, interventive interviewing, family systems, etc. Skills and Abilities
Grounded in harm-reduction, trauma and attachment-informed, person-centred, strengths-based, and low-barrier ways of working and being Sound knowledge in risk management Ability to build rapport with youth Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to prioritize and effectively manage time Able to contribute positively to a team environment as well as work independently Strong understanding and committed practice of professional ethics Other Requirements
