Overview / Responsibilities Wood is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to join our busy and growing Mining and Minerals team in Trail, BC.

Reporting to the Engineering Department Manager, this position is located in our Trail, BC office. This role has overall responsibility for process design and process engineering activities, with a focus on carbon capture and utilization projects, which will include pilot operations, studies through to detailed design. Our Trail office currently numbers over 50 engineers, designers and support personnel. Trail, located in Southeastern British Columbia near the cities of Rossland, Nelson, and Castlegar, is an affordable family-oriented community of approximately 10,000 people. The area offers excellent education and health care facilities, as well as access to world-class skiing at Red Mountain, hiking, boating, fishing, hunting, golf and all outdoor activities available in the Kootenays. Wood’s Trail engineering team and company-wide environmental specialists are focused on Carbon Management & reduction initiatives and are providing solutions to Industrial clients within the region to reduce emissions and protect our environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing, reviewing and approving process plant material balance, process design criteria, Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Drawings, plant layouts and 3-D models, technical specifications, technical evaluations and providing recommendations for equipment purchases for the CO2 capture system.
  • Developing process circuit design from analysis and interpretation of test work program results or plant data
  • Participating in, and eventually chairing, process plant HAZOP reviews Participating in design reviews (model reviews, ergonomics, maintainability) and managing resolution of action items
  • Evaluate an amine acid gas treatment and glycol gas dehydration process from the pilot plant size to full commercial scale CO2 capture plant
  • Working alongside expert colleagues from Wood’s global consulting group as well as directing and managing the activities of project process engineers
  • Providing test work definition, supervision and interpretation
  • Liaising with client process engineers on design issues and incorporating client requirements in a cost effective and low risk manner
  • Providing on-site support during construction and commissioning, or for operational improvement
  • Assisting in the development of capital and operating cost estimates for metallurgical processes Skills / Qualifications
  • Undergraduate Degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years’ recent experience in mineral processing or metallurgy, with at least 2 years of industrial plant experience in base and/or precious metals processing
  • Experience with carbon capture process and familiarity with process modelling software would be considered assets.
  • Experience working in the mining consulting industry.
  • Experience with process development and plant evaluations (pilot or full scale) is essential to this role.
  • Experience in implementing new technology is desirable.
  • Ability to register as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
