Hatch is currently seeking a process engineering student to join its Trail, BC office as a co-op or summer student for the term January 2023 to September 2023. The candidate must be willing to relocate to the Trail, BC for the duration of the work term. The candidate should have a strong interest in environmental air pollution control and/or ventilation.

Gas handling, including design of air pollution control systems, is a key component of all modern industrial facilities. Similarly, mine ventilation has taken on an even greater importance in mine design and operation with more stringent air quality standards and deeper mines. Hatch’s Industrial Clean Tech practice, comprised of over 40 engineering specialists with decades of experience in air pollution control, mine ventilation and gas handling systems, focuses on responding to our clients’ needs with respect to engineering new facilities, debottlenecking or otherwise improving existing facilities, reducing their GHG emissions or otherwise improving their carbon footprint, maintaining environmental compliance and improving workplace hygiene to ensure their plant or mine’s full productivity potential is reached.

Responsibilities

Perform mass and energy balances and prepare process flow diagrams Actively participate in preparing technical calculations, reports, specifications, and datasheets Data analysis and computer simulation using specialty software Travel and perform on site measurements Work in a multi-disciplinary engineering team, with a focus on Industrial Clean Tech projects Meetings and collaboration with client teams

Requirements:

Working towards a degree in chemical or mechanical engineering at an accredited post-secondary institution in Canada (with at least one year of studies completed by Jan 2023) Strong academic record Strong communication skills

How to work in a project-based environment Technical concepts, mass/energy balances and other calculations Gas handling equipment sizing and troubleshooting Report writing, proposal preparation and presentation skills The process of developing an engineering design from concept to construction
