Job Description

Kootenay Charters is a locally owned and operated charter bus company based in Castlegar BC. We operate a variety of buses from 12 passenger executive shuttles up to 56 passenger motor coaches. Currently our fleet numbers 15 vehicles and we service a variety of corporate, private, as well as team clients. Our charters range from safe ride home, weddings, ski trips, airport transfers in both Canada and the USA as well as transporting various teams and providing vital support during our area industry shutdowns. We are the go-to ground transportation provider in the West Kootenays. We are looking for an experienced transportation professional to join our team and help us to continue our growth in this region. The position is multifaceted and requires an individual who is organized, a strong communicator both verbally and in writing as well as customer service focused to maintain and build our customer relationships. The successful candidate will be responsible as the operations manager to ensure our fleet is being maintained properly, schedule drivers, develop and approve itineraries amongst other responsibilities. The preferred candidate will be an experienced motor coach operator as you will still be expected to do some driving if you are looking for fulltime hours. Below is a list of the wide variety of responsibilities that this job includes. There is an opportunity for some training to be provided if you are short in any of the areas listed.

· Class 1 or 2 BC Drivers License with Air Brake Endorsement · Clean Driver Abstract · Able to drive commercially in the USA · Minimum 10 years Professional Driving Experience · Minimum 5 years Motor Coach Driving Experience · Winter and Mountain Driving Experience · Operates vehicles efficiently · Hours of Service expert · Experience with smaller shuttle and school style buses · Customer Service expert · Pride yourself on your clean coach / bus · Ability to review Itineraries for compliance with HOS and reality · Ability to plan and create realistic itineraries · Can perform minor repairs · Can identify defects and determine if vehicle is safe to operate · Can schedule repairs and maintenance with local service providers · Can dump and recharge lavatory system · Can clean buses to a spotless and sanitary condition if cleaners are not available · Drive chartered trips as required · Schedule drivers in a fair and equitable way, based on their abilities and availability · Confirm driver schedules 24 hours before dispatch · Ensure assigned vehicles are serviced and ready to go 2+ hours ahead of scheduled departure · Maintain fleet in state of readiness (clean and fueled) for last minute charters or rescue calls · Interview job applicants · Perform Driver Evaluations on new applicants as well as existing drivers annually · Maintain driver files, audit HOS and speed logs · Maintain maintenance logs / schedule 30-day inspections / MVI · Work with the President and Vice President to plan for fleet expansion / replacement and schedule major overhauls as required · Work with MTI to build Motor Coach driver training program · Comfortable with various common computer programs, word, excel, google docs and calendar
