Operations Manager - Trimac Transportation
Trimac Transportation is looking to hire an Operations Manager for Trail, B.C Reporting to a Terminal Manager or Regional Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the branch.
The Operations Manager is the main touchpoint with our professional technicians and our local customers. They are vital in ensuring our technicians have everything they need to perform their jobs safely and professionally. The Operations Manager also has the critical task of timely and effective communication with our technicians to solve any problems or answer any questions they may have. They do this through collaboration with other teams and being a conduit of information with the Company.
Under direction of Terminal Manager, manage the day-to-day operations of the Trial Truck-Line and Transload location. Developing and preparing operation plans, programs, and schedules. Ensuring the most effective utilization of facilities, equipment and manpower using continuous improvement tools. Supervising rail yard crews and drivers, with an emphasis on open communication. Creating and maintaining positive relations with our customers. Ensuring compliance with day-to-day operating policies and procedures are adhered to at the Branch. Supporting technician retention and working with Human Resources on recruitment initiatives. Responding to, and creating solutions for, technician complaints or concerns. Refining or creating productive process improvement plans as needed. Identifying growth opportunities with our customers through building strong relationships and having an exceptional understanding of the local market conditions. Ensuring the terminal is organized, clean and free of safety hazards. Conducting regular job task observations with technicians. Asset management within the terminal; including keeping a pulse on the current and future needs of customers. Work directly with transportation operations to expedite the fleet readiness Support operational admin staff (Billing, Dispatch) on a as needed basis. Supporting with Fact Finding Investigations regarding, but not limited to: claims and safety incidents Manage employee relations in the branch on an as needed basis, including working with Human Resources for progressive discipline. Participating with the Terminal's Health and Safety Committee. Given the nature of the business, after-hours support may be required (from time to time) in the event of emergencies and/or urgent customer requirement. SKILLS
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to motivate and engage personnel. Strong understanding of the local market. Proven track record of group leadership with a commitment to safety and quality. An entrepreneurial business orientation and a demonstrated achievement in bottom-line results. Computer skills are necessary. (Excel and Word at an advanced level) Experience acting as a coach and mentor to a team. A decisive individual who possesses a "big picture" perspective for operational decisions. Sound and accurate judgment with the ability to make timely decisions. A proactive problem solver. EDUCATION/SPECIFIC TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma required. Some post-secondary preferred. Minimum of five (5) years' management/operations experience in the highway/transportation business. Transload Experience preferred. Rail yard experience preferred.
