Manager, First Nations Relations Management Band 3

This position is located in Cranbrook, however Revelstoke, Castlegar or Nelson may also be considered subject to Ministry operational requirements. This position is excluded from union membership. An eligibility list may be established.

Manager, First Nations Relations leads the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of the province’s duty to consult First Nations and to provide authoritative advice, interpretation and/or consultation services for one of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations’ (FLNRORD) eight regions

Job Requirements: In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in business, public administration, natural resources, First Nations studies, political or social sciences, law or communications or a related discipline and a minimum of three (3) years of recent, related experience; OR,

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Tehnical Diploma in business, public administration, natural resources, First Nations studies, political or social sciences, law or communications or a related discipline and minimum of five (5) years of recent, related experience; OR,

  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered; AND,

  • Recent, related experience is defined as experience gained within the last seven (7) years.

Recent, related experience must include:

  • Experience developing engagement strategies and conducting consultations with First Nations.
  • Experience providing advice and recommendations to decision-makers regarding First Nations consultation and the resolution of issues.
  • Experience working with multi-government organizations and multi-Indigenous organizations.
  • Experience supervising employees.

Preference may be given for experience with the following:

  • Experience negotiating agreements.
  • Experience supervising employees in a union environment.
  • Experience working with indigenous-BC legal case law.

Provisos/Willingness Statements:

  • Valid BC driver’s license.
