Hospital & Patient Care Assistant

Job Opportunity!

Castlegar Veterinary Hospital is seeking to fill one of our “Hospital & Patient Care Assistant” positions. This is a great opportunity for a hard-working, mature, team-oriented person who is looking to put their love for cleaning and passion for caring about animals to use!

Our team is dedicated to delivering the absolute best care to our patients, and this position is a big part of that. You must be able to complete your work independently, but ultimately teamwork is the key to our success.

Our Patient and Hospital Care team members have the following responsibilities and duties:

• Walking and bathing dogs

• Cleaning runs and cages

• Feeding and medicating all boarding animals

• Providing additional services upon request

• Admitting and discharging boarding patients - customer service skills are important!

• Carefully observing and recording physical and behavioral changes in boarding animals

• Maintaining the upkeep of the hospital inside and out (laundry, mopping floors, vacuuming, lawn care, etc)

• Assisting in all other departments as needed (helping our techs, doctors, and receptionists as needed)

• Opening shift starts at 7:00 am and closing shift leaves at 7:00 pm at the earliest. (Daily shifts can range from 7-9 hours)

• You must be available for split shifts (8-10am/4-6pm) on weekend and STAT holidays! (Our patients and boarding animals need care every day of the week.)

Qualifications and Skills

• Candidates with an employment history in office reception work, customer care, custodial care, medical or veterinary fields are most compatible.

• Qualified candidates must have an ability to learn quickly; demonstrate a passion for animals; possess excellent customer service skills, a strong work ethic, the ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities

• Qualified candidates must have an ability to work in a fast-past environment, and interact and communicate with staff and clients.

• This is a physical job and your hands will get dirty – applicants should be ready to embrace that!

• Must be able to lift 50lbs

• Reliable transportation required.

• Experience with animals strongly preferred, but not required.

• We are looking for people dedicated to the hospital as on-the-job training does take many months.
