Job Description
The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK), Castlegar & District Community Complex (CDRD) is currently inviting applications for the full‐time positon of Facility Operator. This is a Union position at $31.22 per hour ($32.05 for operators with Refrigeration Operator Certification) plus benefits & pension as per the Collective Agreement.

The Facility Operator performs skilled operational, building maintenance and janitorial work in multi-purpose facilities. Duties include operating refrigeration, ice-making, resurfacing and pool equipment; undertaking and performing limited construction or renovation projects and performing routine janitorial duties. The worker must exercise care in routine dealings with other employees and provide assistance to the public and user groups using the facilities.

The facility houses an ice arena, a 6 lane, 25 meter pool and leisure pool, whirlpool, weight room, fitness studio, meeting rooms, banquet facility, kitchen and senior centre. The property includes sport courts and a skate park!
REQUIRED TRAINING & CERTIFICATION: – Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent – Valid BC Driver’s License – B.C. Safety Authority Ice Facility Operator Certificate or higher qualification – Pool Operation Level 1 & 2 Certificate of Competency or equivalent – Preferred Refrigeration Operator Certification – Standard First Aid and CPR (may be completed in the first 3 months of employment) – WHMIS Certificate (may be completed in the first week of employment) – Certificate in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (Can be obtained within first month of employment) – Satisfactory Criminal Record
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: – Knowledge of using, handling, and shipping of hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods – Ability to perform operational maintenance and servicing duties and repair equipment and machinery – Ability to read, interpret meters and gauges as well as perform calculations, tests and maintain reports, logs and records. – Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in janitorial work – Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public – Ability to work with minimal supervision, exercise considerable independence of judgment / action in the operation of equipment – Ability to work as a team member and effectively communicate with co-workers and Supervisor – Knowledge and understanding of ice making including care of an ice sheet and associated ice making equipment – Knowledge and understanding of pool operations including water testing and balancing and associated operational equipment

The successful candidate will be offered full time hours. This is a Union position at $31.22 per hour ($32.05 for operators with Refrigeration Operator Certification) plus benefits & pension as per the Collective Agreement between the RDCK & CUPE Local 2262. The Facility Operator works shift work & their schedule will include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends & holiday shifts.
