Job Description

Reporting to the Superintendent, Environmental Management, the Environmental Coordinator manages and coordinates environmental monitoring activities and projects for the Environment group and across business areas within Trail Operations.

Please note this position will require the incumbent to participate in a rotating on-call schedule; responsibilities include responding to public feedback, sampling equipment failures, emergencies, and valley ventilation conditions.

Responsibilities:

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures Take the lead on various environmental property-wide projects and discuss with management staff on priorities and progress Develop strategies and carry out implementation to characterize plant discharges as part of Trail Operations’ Environment Management System Establish and maintain sampling procedures for environmental effects sampling (water, air, land) enabling Trail Operations to assess its environmental impact Implement Federal, Provincial, and non-routine sampling methods and techniques and perform necessary testing to provide sampling data results or recommendations Act as System Administrator for Environmental Management department documentation Evaluate data and provide reports to evaluate test results, recommending further action Provide technical and compliance assistance to Trail Operations’ personnel regarding permitted hazardous waste facilities as well as operating oversight for the landfill and the Environment group’s waste chemical storage facility

Qualifications:

Formal post-secondary degree from a recognized program in Environmental Sciences, or Applied Sciences field such as Agrology, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Geology or Hydrogeology Applicants must have relevant sampling experience Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience in Industrial or Environmental sampling that is relevant to Trail Operations Experience relevant to Trail Operations’ Environmental Department, and a good knowledge of Trail Operations processes and the air, sewer and effluent systems are assets Good communication skills along with the ability to undertake multiple tasks and work effectively and independently within a team environment are necessary Proficient in the operation of computers using various on-line, data base and spreadsheet software is required Applicants must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license Applicants must be able to occasionally lift heavy sampling equipment
