Responsibilities Analyzes and translates business information requirements into logical database designs; develops the data infrastructure that best supports the business; maps data models to existing data design interfaces; conducts performance tuning and optimization. Works with system developers to develop data models, design alternatives and approaches; reviews and revises estimates for design and implementation activities. Monitors data base performance using various monitoring tools and develops solutions with application teams and software vendors to address and resolve performance issues for medium to large databases; monitors the growth of data bases and performs further tuning as required; analyzes operational problems and data base recoveries to determine and implement problem fixes. Reviews technical infrastructure for single points of failure and evaluates the business requirements to ensure high availability for application, database and network systems. Works closely with the application developer and operations teams as needed to complete the application fail-over and recovery strategy; makes recommendations for disk storage configurations. Develops, communicates, and maintains the data architecture and data models at the conceptual, logical, and physical levels; presents the data and database architectures to project teams; coordinates work to apply data models to existing databases. Interfaces with development team members and management to develop, upgrade, optimize and troubleshoot the database systems as required in a SQL Server and Oracle environment. Participates in the development of enterprise data architecture, policies, standards and guidelines related to the system wide integration of data. Evaluates and selects tools to support data modeling and design; identifies, evaluates and recommends technologies to support the database architecture. Identifies issues of data ownership across the enterprise, including data integration issues for consolidation and transformation. Provides direction, guidance, and technical support to clients, applications, and operations areas; co-ordinates production turnover procedures with operations and application maintenance personnel. Performs other duties of a minor nature related to the above responsibilities, which do not affect the evaluation of the job. Requirements Bachelor Degree in Computer Science. A minimum of five (5) to six (6) years of related and recent experience in database administration with a thorough demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle management database design and implementation. Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle database administration experience with a thorough demonstrated knowledge of database design principals; competence in conceptual, logical, and physical database design. Expertise in designing data architecture, selecting appropriate technologies and products and designing an implementation approach. Competence in managing medium to large size database projects with multiple subprojects, system interfaces and specialized functions, which span across several business units.
