Community Outreach Support Worker
The Kootenay Brain Injury Association is seeking a qualified and committed individual who can fulfill the position of "Community Outreach Support Worker". This position will involve performing community outreach services to clients in one-to-one and group settings. The applicant will be required to use their own vehicle with mileage reimbursement for specific in-between client travel. Travel to and from work is the responsibility of the employee.
Total hours for the combined position will be between 21-30 hours per week, with work in Trail and Castlegar. An Association laptop may be provided to conduct professional work. There may also be opportunity for additional hours for an interested candidate. Within an "Outreach" position, a home office is a requirement. A form will be issued for income tax purposes to indicate such for expenses incurred.
This position will be under the supervision of the Executive Director to provide a high-quality service to our clients and family members living with the effects of brain injury. The Community Outreach Support Worker will possess the skills necessary to effectively support clients with independent living in their community and home, and/or manage daily life skills. The Outreach Worker will be able to initiate collaborative goal setting with specific tasks that work towards the goals identified.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide direct support to individuals living with the effects of acquired brain injury (ABI). Ability to form and maintain healthy relationships with clients, model and support good communication skills, conflict resolution skills and socially appropriate behaviours. Must demonstrate excellence with professional boundaries, professional ethics and standards. Must be highly organized and able to manage time/appointment schedules efficiently. Facilitation of group meetings, activities, events with goal-oriented purpose and outcome measures. Encourage and support community integration and socialization. Provide support and education related to ABI to family members. Participate in team meetings and staff development. Must have a working home office and have good working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook programs to conduct your job effectively. Home business expenses can be part of the employee's tax return expenses. An agency laptop will be provided. Must have reliable transportation, valid BC drivers license. Employee will be reimbursed for additional insurance required, above what is already in place. Must submit a recent (within the last 6 months) vulnerable sector criminal record check. First Aid and Food Safe certificates would be an asset. Qualifications:
Minimum training requirements are a Human Service Worker Diploma with at least 2 years experience working with vulnerable adults. Preferred qualifications: Social Work Diploma, Rehabilitation Diploma or a Degree in a related field, along with two years experience working with individuals experiencing acquired brain injury (ABI) and/or training in neuro-behavioral strategies would be an asset. Sensitivity to issues around removing barriers, cultural differences and the cognitive and behavioural challenges individuals with brain injury experience, will be required for the position.
