ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION: The West Kootenay Regional Arts Council supports the development of artistic activity across the West Kootenays by providing professional development opportunities, sharing resources across the region, and amplifying arts and culture events.

JOB DESCRIPTION: About the Arts Impact Project

Through the Arts Impact Project, WKRAC will host a series of online workshops with a focus on inclusion of underserved communities and keeping arts thriving in these challenging times. Three workshops will be created based on community outreach and feedback about the topics that are most relevant to the communities involved. A fourth workshop, open to all, will cover how to plan and budget for an online event, performance, or presentation of artistic work – or how to pivot from an in-person to an online event.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Community Coordinator (3 positions available)

A Community Coordinator will be hired (on a contract basis) from the LGBTQ+, youth (ages 16-25), and Indigenous communities, respectively. The Community Coordinator will consult with their community to identify and prioritize what the community wants/needs to support the creation and presentation of artistic or cultural work. Examples of community needs may include building digital capacity, marketing skills development, financial management of artistic projects, or developing leadership skills in arts and culture.

Timeline: August 8 – September 16, 2022

RESPONSIBILITIES: Each Community Coordinator will be tasked with:

  1. Drafting an outreach plan to engage artists and creatives in their community about topics of professional development that would be most meaningful.
  2. Meeting with the WKRAC Executive Director to review and discuss their outreach plan.
  3. Conducting community outreach; gathering feedback and learnings
  4. Recommending workshop topics that would best serve their community; and, if appropriate, recommending members of the community to be considered by WKRAC to deliver a community focused workshop.

The Community Coordinator will receive advisory and administrative support from the WKRAC office.

QUALIFICATIONS: • A passion for arts and culture and an eagerness to support your community in creating more artistic or cultural work • Strong written and verbal skills in English • Problem solving skills • Access to a computer, laptop or tablet • Experience with project coordination or community organizing is an asset

HOW TO APPLY: Submit your resume and cover letter, in a single document, by email to by Friday, July 29th. In your cover letter, be sure to address which of the three roles you are applying for: LGBTQ+ Community Coordinator, Youth Community Coordinator, or Indigenous Community Coordinator.
